To transfer ownership, you must complete the "Assignment of Title by Registered Owner" section on the back of your Certificate of Title. You need to:

Yes. A Bill of Sale is required for all private vehicle sales in Alabama. It serves as a legal receipt and proof of the purchase price, which determines the sales tax the buyer will pay. You should use the official Bill of Sale (Form MVT 5-13) if possible, or create a document that includes:
The vehicle's year, make, model, and VIN.
The purchase price and date of sale.
The full names, addresses, and signatures of both the seller and the buyer.
The names of two witnesses or a notary public signature.

You cannot legally sell a vehicle without a title in Alabama, unless the vehicle is more than 35 model years old.
