To transfer ownership, you must complete the "Assignment of Title by Registered Owner" section on the back of your Certificate of Title. You need to:

Yes. A Bill of Sale is required for all private vehicle sales in Alabama. It serves as a legal receipt and proof of the purchase price, which determines the sales tax the buyer will pay. You should use the official Bill of Sale (Form MVT 5-13) if possible, or create a document that includes:

The purchase price and date of sale.
