To transfer ownership, you must complete the "Assignment of Title" section on the back of your Certificate of Title. You need to:
Enter the buyer's full legal name and address.
Fill in the exact odometer reading.
Enter the date of the sale and the purchase price.
Sign and print your name exactly as it appears on the front of the title.
Do not use white-out or erase mistakes. Any alterations can void the title, requiring you to apply for a duplicate before you can complete the sale. If the title lists more than one owner with "joint tenancy with rights of survivorship" (often indicated by "JTWROS"), all owners must sign.
You cannot legally sell a vehicle without a title in Colorado. If yours is lost, stolen, or damaged, you must apply for a duplicate title using the Duplicate Title Request and Receipt (Form DR 2539A).
