To transfer ownership, you must complete the "Assignment of Title" section, typically found on the back of your Certificate of Title. You need to:
Enter the buyer's full legal name.
Fill in the date of the sale.
Enter the exact odometer reading (required for vehicles less than 20 years old).
Enter the purchase price.
Sign and print your name exactly as it appears on the front of the title.
Do not use white-out, erase, or cross out information. Any alterations will void the title. If you make a mistake, you must apply for a duplicate title before you can complete the sale.
North Dakota law requires a Damage Disclosure Statement for vehicles that are less than nine years old. This section is often included on the title itself.
