To make your listing as attractive as possible, upload high quality and clear photos. Don't forget to include a description of the condition of the vehicle, how you have used it, etc.
You want to have your vehicle title and other required documents. Each state has different documentation when selling your used vehicle, so be sure to look into that ahead of time!
You will be able to track incoming offers all in one place, and will be able to accept, rebut or counter offers from inside the KarKiosk platform. Plus, when you find a buyer or an offer that you like, you can schedule a test drive from within KarKiosk

When you have sold your car, make sure to get the correct paperwork in order, you will need to transfer your vehicle title and any other documents based upon state requirements. Don't forget to cancel your insurance.
To transfer ownership, you must complete the "Assignment of Certificate of Title" section on the back of your title document. You need to:
Enter the buyer's full legal name and address.
Fill in the exact odometer reading.
Enter the date of the sale and the selling price.
Sign and print your name exactly as it appears on the front of the title.
Crucially, your signature must be notarized. You must sign the title in the presence of a notary public. Do not sign it beforehand. If the title lists "AND" between owners' names, all owners must sign in front of a notary.
You cannot legally sell a vehicle without a title in West Virginia. If yours is lost, stolen, or damaged, you must apply for a duplicate title using the Affidavit of Duplicate Title for a Vehicle or Watercraft (Form DMV-4-TR). If there is a lien on the vehicle, you must pay off the loan first. The lender will then release the lien, allowing you to obtain a clear title to sign over to the buyer.
While the notarized title is the primary legal document, a Bill of Sale is required if the sale price is less than 50% of the NADA Clean Loan Book value. In this case, both the seller and buyer must sign a Bill of Sale (Form DMV-7-TR), and it must be notarized. Even if the price is higher, a Bill of Sale is highly recommended as a receipt and proof of transaction for your records. It should include:
The vehicle's year, make, model, and VIN.
The purchase price and date of sale.
The full names and signatures of both parties.
No. Private sellers do not collect sales tax (known as the privilege tax in WV). The buyer is responsible for paying the 6% privilege tax directly to the DMV when they title and register the vehicle in their name.
No. West Virginia requires annual safety inspections, but the seller is not required to get a new one specifically for the sale. The existing inspection sticker remains valid until its expiration date. Once the buyer registers the car, they are responsible for maintaining valid inspection status. However, selling a car with a valid, unexpired inspection sticker is a strong selling point.
In West Virginia, the license plates belong to the seller, not the vehicle. You must remove your license plates before the buyer takes possession. Do not let the buyer drive away with your plates. You can transfer them to another vehicle you own or return them to the DMV.
Always meet in a public, well-lit location. The parking lot of a police station, a bank, or a busy shopping center are excellent choices. Avoid meeting at your home if possible. When offering a test drive, always verify the buyer's driver's license and ride along with them.
