To legally transfer ownership, the seller must sign the back of the original Georgia Certificate of Title. Every owner listed on the front must sign as a seller. Bring your properly signed title to the Hancock County Tax Commissioner’s Office in Sparta to complete the transfer and put the car in your name.
Georgia gives you a strict seven-day grace period to drive your newly purchased car without a license plate. To drive legally during this week, you must keep the fully signed and dated Bill of Sale, the properly signed title, and your active proof of insurance inside the car.
