The seller must sign the back of the original Georgia Certificate of Title to transfer ownership. Every owner listed on the front must sign as a seller. Once you have the signed title, take it to the McDuffie County Tax Commissioner’s Office in Thomson. They will process the paperwork and put the car in your name.
Georgia gives you a strict seven-day grace period to drive your new car without a license plate. Keep the fully signed, dated Bill of Sale and the signed-over title inside the car to drive legally during this time. These papers show police officers that you just bought the car.
